Where we are
Lake Ngatu
Lake Ngatu & Lakeside B&B

Lake Ngatu is one of the Far North's natural gems - an extremely beautiful dune lake located within a recreational reserve, five kilometres north of Awanui.

The Lake Ngatu Track is a flat and easily accessible four kilometre, one hour, bush walk around the lake - ideal for families and children. Alternatively, you can bicycle or horse ride around the track or take out a boat or kayak on the lake.

How to get here

By car
Lakeside is located on the Twin Coast Discovery Highway touring route and you will find us an ideal base for visiting the best of the Far North - from the Hokianga to Doubtless Bay to Cape Reinga.

Travelling here by car by the direct route using State Highway (SH) 1, or a combination of SH 1 and SH 10, the journey time from Auckland is about four and a half hours without stops. Travelling the Twin Coast Discovery Highway - a world-class touring route leaving from, and returning to, Auckland - requires at least two days in each direction to visit the many interesting and beautiful attractions along the way. Visit Go Northwest for more information and click here for a map of the route.

After reaching the township of Awanui at the junction of SH 1 and SH 10, continue towards Cape Reinga on SH 1 and after five kilometres turn left on West Coast Road, signposted to Waipapakauri and Ninety Mile Beach and as soon as you reach Lake Ngatu, Lakeside is on the right-hand side of the road.

By air
There are one or two daily return flights from Auckland to Kaitaia Airport (just south of Awanui and about a ten minute drive away) which are operated by Air New Zealand Link. Rental cars at Kaitaia Airport are available from Northland Rentals or, if you prefer, we can arrange for you to be picked up from the airport and arrange for transport during you stay.
